Isaiah Thomas – From Tacoma WA to NBA All Star

Isaiah Thomas is a name that has become synonymous with basketball excellence, both in the college and professional ranks. Born in Tacoma, Washington, Thomas is a proud product of Washington State, and his journey to the NBA began in the Pacific Northwest.
Thomas attended Curtis High School in Tacoma, where he quickly established himself as a basketball prodigy. As a sophomore, he led his team to the state championship game, and by his senior year, he was considered one of the top point guards in the country. In his final season at Curtis, Thomas averaged an astounding 31.2 points per game, earning him the title of Washington State’s Mr. Basketball.  Thomas then transferred to South Kent for his Senior Year to work on his grades . 
Following his dominating high school career, Thomas stayed in state and committed to the University of Washington. Despite being undersized for a Division I point guard, Thomas quickly proved that he belonged on the court. In his freshman year, he played in all 35 games and earned Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors. Thomas continued to improve over the next two seasons, and by his junior year, he was one of the top players in the conference.
Thomas’ junior year was a memorable one for the Huskies, as they won the Pac-10 regular-season championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Thomas led the way for Washington, averaging 16.8 points and 6.1 assists per game, and earning All-Pac-10 First Team honors.
After his junior year, Thomas declared for the NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 60th overall pick. Despite being the last pick in the draft, Thomas was determined to prove that he belonged in the league. He did just that in his rookie season, averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 assists per game and earning NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors.
Over the next several years, Thomas continued to improve and establish himself as one of the league’s top point guards. He played for several teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers, and earned two All-Star selections and an All-NBA Second Team honor.
However, Thomas’ career was not without its challenges. In 2017, he suffered a hip injury that required surgery and forced him to miss the remainder of the season. Despite working tirelessly to recover from the injury, Thomas has struggled to regain the form that made him a star in the league.
Despite the challenges, Isaiah Thomas will always be remembered as one of the greatest basketball players to come out of Washington State. His dominance at Curtis High School and the University of Washington, and his success in the NBA, have made him a role model for aspiring basketball players across the country.
