DeJaunte Murrey – Seattle Born and Rasied

DeJaunte Murrey is a former basketball player who made a name for himself at Rainier Beach High School, the University of Washington, and in the NBA. His journey to success was not an easy one, but his perseverance and hard work paid off in the end.
Murrey attended Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, Washington, where he played basketball for four years. During his time there, he became one of the top high school basketball players in the country. He was named the Washington State Player of the Year twice and was also named a McDonald’s All-American in 2015. Murrey led his team to two state championships and was a key player in their success.
After graduating from high school, Murrey decided to stay in Seattle and attend the University of Washington. He played for the Huskies for one season before declaring for the NBA draft. During his time at Washington, Murrey averaged 16.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and was also named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
Murrey was selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. He played for the Spurs for three seasons and became known for his strong defensive skills and ability to play multiple positions. In his second season with the team, Murrey suffered a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entire 2018-2019 season. However, he worked hard to recover and came back even stronger the following season.
In 2019, Murrey signed a four-year, $64 million contract extension with the Spurs, showing the team’s confidence in his abilities. He continued to improve his game and was a key player for the Spurs during the 2020-2021 season. He averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, setting career highs in all three categories.
Despite his success with the Spurs, Murrey was traded to the Denver Nuggets in the summer of 2021. He has continued to play at a high level for the Nuggets and is a key player on their roster.
Murrey’s success on the court is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has overcome obstacles and injuries to become one of the top players in the NBA.
