Will Conroy – UW Assistant Coach

Will Conroy is a name that basketball fans in the Pacific Northwest admire. Born on December 8, 1982, in Seattle, Washington, Conroy had a remarkable career in high school and college basketball. He played for Rainier Beach High School and later for the University of Washington, where he set numerous records. After his playing career ended, Conroy became a coach, and he is currently an assistant coach for the Washington Huskies men’s basketball team.

 

Conroy attended Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, where he excelled as a basketball player. He helped lead the team to a state championship in 1998, where he was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Conroy’s high school career resulted in over 1,500 points, and he was widely regarded as one of the best high school players in the country. 
After graduating from Rainier Beach, Conroy enrolled at the University of Washington, where he continued to impress on the basketball court. He played for the Huskies from 2001 to 2005, setting several school records. Conroy still holds the record for most career assists (515) and most assists in a single season (236). He was also named to the All-Pac-10 team in both his junior and senior seasons.
After Conroy’s playing career ended, he played professionally for several years. He played in the NBA Development League and overseas in countries such as Turkey and Germany. In 2010, Conroy retired from playing and returned to the University of Washington as a coach. He started as a graduate assistant and worked his way up to become an assistant coach.
As an assistant coach, Conroy has been instrumental in developing several standout players, including Markelle Fultz, who was the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Conroy is renowned for his ability to connect with players and help them improve their skills, and he is highly respected in the basketball community.
Conroy’s legacy continues with his son, Will Conroy Jr. Will Jr. is one of the top AAU players in the country for his age and has been playing basketball since he was three years old. He has already gained attention from college scouts and is following in his father’s footsteps with a promising future ahead of him.
