Ryan Appleby – Stanwood HS Legend and Huskey Great!

Ryan Appleby is a name that is synonymous with basketball excellence. Born and raised in Stanwood, Washington, Appleby first made a name for himself as a high school basketball star. He led the Stanwood High School Spartans to multiple district championships and was named the Washington State Player of the Year in 2002.

After graduating from high school, Appleby decided to take his game to the next level and committed to playing college basketball at the University of Florida. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Gators, where he was a key contributor off the bench. He helped the team reach the NCAA tournament both years, including a trip to the Final Four in 2006.
Following his time at Florida, Appleby transferred to the University of Washington, where he played his final two seasons of college basketball. He quickly established himself as a fan favorite and a shooting specialist, knocking down three-pointers at an impressive clip. He helped lead the Huskies to two NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2008.
Throughout his college career, Appleby was known for his deadly shooting touch and his ability to come up big in clutch situations. He finished his career with 258 made three-pointers, which ranks sixth all-time in Washington Huskies history.
After college, Appleby continued to play basketball professionally overseas, including stints in Germany and the Netherlands. He also spent time playing in the NBA’s D-League (now known as the G-League) and was a member of the Golden State Warriors’ summer league team in 2008.
Today, Appleby is still involved in the game of basketball, serving as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Seattle Pacific University. He is also the co-founder of the Appleby Basketball Academy, which provides training and instruction to young basketball players in the Seattle area.
Ryan Appleby’s basketball journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and a love for the game. He overcame obstacles and setbacks to become one of the top shooters in college basketball, and he continues to give back to the sport that has given him so much. For basketball fans in Stanwood and beyond, Ryan Appleby will always be remembered as a hometown hero and a basketball legend.
